Description: This is an absolutely unique aged fenghuang dancong of early 90's. Unlike most dancongs of the striped shape, this dancong was made to Anxi pellet-shaped style. But the taste and aroma of it is undoubtedly dancong!

I asked the producer why it was made in the Anxi fashion. He answered that in early 90's the local authorities tried to promote the market of dancong in the hope of recreating the success of Anxi Tie Guan Yin. Masters from Anxi were invited to meet and brainstorm with local tea producers. This batch was produced under the guidance of an Anxi master. However, this experiment was pretty short-lived. This batch was always stored in his warehouse until recent years.

This aged dancong was treated by us in Houston by roasting, in order to remove the slight smell after long storaging and to reduce its humidity content.

The aroma is super complex and simply unique. Ripe fruitiness, plum/mango like acidiness and a hearty woody spiciness - the later reminded me a little of aged #8582 pu-erhs. Taste is surprisingly wild. It is unlike aged bao zhong of elegant smoothness; if not handled carefully, you can get a strong and bitter cup. Proper short-steeping gong-fu is required. Amazing strong and robust after-taste and body feeling. A very worthy and, again, absolutely unique aged dancong to explore!
